Got one customer called up, spoke to me in Bahasa Malaysia, knowing very well that I'm a Chinese. The customer was a Chinese as well. She started:
Customer: "Saya ada masalah..."
Me: (okay, if that's the way you want to play it) "Ye, apa yg saya boleh bantu"
Customer: "Yang Pocket PC nie tak boleh jalan..."
Me: "Tak boleh jalan? Die takde power ke?"
Customer: "Oh tidak, dia kata 'Tap anywhere on the screen to start Windows Mobile 2003 SE'"
Me: "Tu bukan nye masalah..."
Customer: "Apa saya kena buat?"
Me: "Hah?"
I don't understand. She can perfectly read the whole sentence to me but she doesn't understand it's meaning.
Me: "Cik ni tap screen la..."
Customer: "Okay..." (tapping her screen) "Ade message 'Tap the target firmly and accurately at each location on the screen. The target will continue to move until the screen is aligned'"
Me: "Ikut jer instruction tu..."
Customer: "Apa saya kena buat?"
Now it's really getting over my head. She managed to read the second instruction and yet she is too stupid to understand the meaning. I stopped, asked her to get her English-speaking colleague to help her out. Talking in Bahasa is one thing but when someone is able to read English but somehow cannot comprehend them, this I consider an insult to English. Clearly the customer is an idiot.
In all the history there are some other experiences as well, such as customer saying that he's a computer-illiterate. Some Chinese-speaking once even told me: "I'm sorry but I'm a computer-literate". That made me wondered whether he is testing me...
