Okay, here goes:
Last Thursday (11-Nov-2004), there was a thunderstorm and I asked my mom to relay the message to my brother: "Take off the phone line from the modem." My mom translated the message to my computer-illiterate brother as: "Take out the communication line from the computer." Then being as ridiculed as he was, he took off my LAN cables, power cables and any cables he could find, EXCEPT for the phone line.
As a result. I have no net connection. Bang. Toasted. Stuck. For 3 freaking days!
I immediately called
Anand to borrow the broadband modem from him for troubleshooting. Call me ruthless but a technical support guy will always be a technical support guy. As I plugged in the modem, it still gives me the same problem. Okay, not modem problem. I'm really glad. Hate to go through all those TMNet shit. I took out the modem from the hub, connect it directly to my network card. Guess what? Windows gives me something about unable to establish connection and it goes about only 10-20 bytes when connected.
Took the network card out, put in another network card. It's even worse. No connection at all. Stuck back the card: found it is working but still same 10-20 bytes per second speed or something. God damn! Must be the network card then.
Then I came back to the office today (14-Nov-2004), get a network card, and bought some USB HDD casing at the same time. Let's see if it managed to resolve the problem. I hate to think after all this while, I have to let my report hanged by the thread. Oh yes, I do have to submit a report by this coming Tuesday (16-Nov-2004) for some internal interview.
Right now I have no mood to complete the bloody report. Let's see if I can copy the report to my memory key & USB HDD casing just to be sure and see if the computer will survive the new network card. *sigh* what a weekend!
